'Airmans Cross'
Many pilots over the years have been killed on the salisbury plains close to boscombe down and Two who were killed in the summer of 1912 could of been the first in the uk. In the early days of aviation, aircraft engines had very limited power and airframes were basic wood with a cotton cloth surface to save flight weight. Flight was slow and unstable in windy or gusty conditions, stalling of the aircraft could of been the cause of the accident. Many who witnessed seeing this phantom aircraft have said that the aircraft has been seen flying over the area of the road junction then seen diving to the ground. This monument has been placed in the area of the crash and engraved with the names: Captain B. Lorrainne and Sergeant R. Wilson who were the pilots. Email me If ive missed any information.
