‘Dilton Marsh Church’

The vicar of Dilton Marsh was one day leaving his church after a service. He went via a small private path leading out to the vicarage, when he saw a man in evening dress coming towards him. When he was so near to the vicar, that the vicar could have touched the stranger, he said ‘Good evening!‘ and the man promptly vanished. The vicar says he does not believe in ghosts, but he saw this happen.

(Told by the Vicar’s wife, Salisbury Folk-Life meeting, Feb 22nd 1979).

‘Elderly Women’

Story By Webmaster

The landlord of the once former public house, The Kings Arms once said that he had seen ghosts sat at the bar .

He said one morning he couldn’t sleep so he went downstairs to finish a job and as he opened the door to the main public area he saw the ghost of two elderly women sat at the bar. He said this happened a few times in the pub. Brief history

The Kings Arms was one of two public houses in the village until its closure in the 1990′s.

‘LittleBoy’

Story By Webmaster Sightings of a young boy who died around 1972 after falling from a climbing apparatus in the playground of the old school have been seen. I personally remember this as I was in the playground at the time of the accident. It wasn’t until I was told 37 years later, during a ghost walk of Dilton Marsh, that his apparition has been seen in a area of the playground which no longer exists.

‘LoneWoman’

Between Dilton Marsh and Chapmanslade, just beyond Short Street, a middle-aged woman wearing a long skirt has been sighted. She came out of a hedge and crossed the road (Chalcot lane), then walks through an opposite hedge. There was an investigation on the hedges and it was noted that no-one could have walked though them.

‘Man In Black’

Down the High Street in Dilton Marsh walks a man dressed in black . The apparition appears from near the old infant’s school and walks down the centre of the road and disappears when reaching the Prince of Wales wearing long leather boots and black flowing coat plus a wide brimmed black hat .This ghost walks with a stagger but has a very fixed gaze. This had been seen at the start of winter in the early evening .So if you are in the village keep a good look out , you may see him walk passed you……

Many of the weaver cottages on the High Street hold many ghostly activities. No.87 formerly known as Hazeldean Terrace has had many footsteps, rolling coins and ghostly sounds, smells and visions. Many of the cottages has had things moved about and ghostly visitors have been reported.

‘Footsteps’

Story Wrote by the Webmaster One evening; sitting at the table to eat an evening lunch the owner heard the sound of footsteps from upstairs walking back and forth on the old wooden flooring and thought that Brian, a work colleague was upstairs .After eating he made a cup of coffee for himself and brought one up for Brian but as he got to the top of the stairs he found that the office was locked and he was all alone.

Are you experiencing something strange in your home from the sound of footsteps, knockings or some other unexplained phenomenon.

Have you seen a ghost in your home.

Are you experiencing Smells or oders in the home, that can not be explained, for example pipe tobacco smells, perfume or aftershave.

Do you ever get a feeling that you are not alone in the home.

Have you seen objects moving around by unseen hands in your home or work place.

Many of these experiences are never reported because people don’t want to feel weird and odd.
People are frightened to talk because of skepticism (it’s all in your head, it’s only your eye’s playing tricks, you’re hallucinating, its a misinterpretation of something natural or some other reply) and are talked out of what may of been a real paranormal experience.
So if you are witnessing events and need someone to talk too, please post your comment below or If you prefer that you and your experience to stay private from public eyes then thats not a problem.

Please contact me on email or mobile.

I’m also available 24/7 on mobile, Tel. 07814299892

Once again this year, Trina pulled off another great walk of the village.
This event, despite the rain (again) was a great success with approximately 40 people turning out from the general area of Dilton Marsh to join this walk.
This year Trina was accompanied by a village historian (sorry! forgotten his name) who discussed the history of the village.
    Fascinating stuff!!!

    Hi,
    27th Nov –
On this walk Trina prepared some new locations that are allegedly thought as haunted.
The evening was bitterly cold with starry clear skies which included occasional sharp burst of wind that cut through our bodies. Even thought approx 40 people turned up for Dilton Marsh latest ghost walk.
Trina started out with her normal psychic shielding which was conducted from the Prince of Wales car park before setting out, to our first port of call.
Most of the walk was mainly the above locations, but this year there were extras.
One of the first newest locations was a walk out of the village to a wooded area known as the Hollow. We walking half way up the hill and was asked to switch off our touches and to stand in the dark in silence to find if one of the group was receptive to something beyond our normal senses to which nothing was found.
We all heard the sound of cracking of branches, as if an animal or someone was walking high above us, through the wood. I used my nightvision camcorder and saw nothing. This sound could have been a collectively perceived place memory or the older term residual but I think the group agreed in thinking that it was nothing more than the sound of nature, fox or badger. The Hollow is thought to be haunted by monks!
After a short stay we back tracked to the village and made our way to the Old Vicarage, which is another new stop for the Dilton Marsh ghost walk.
It was explained by the current owners of an eerie feeling or presence that is believed to occupy a particular room which was witnessed by a friend who had stayed overnight. Hopefully there will be more on this in the future.
Next the group walked to the bottom of St. Mary’s Lane, to a known crossroads, where it is said that people while walking their dogs, have allegedly seen the apparition of a stage coach travelling a long what is known to some locally, as the oldest stretch of road in Dilton Marsh. Trina had a few pairs of dowsing rods which she handed out. I helped by explaining to some people the facts of dowsing and its connections to Ideomotor response and also its possible indirect perception of clairvoyance. Nothing of significance came of this, as the walk was generally for Entertainment purposes only.

    Hi. This is Trina Here,
Good write up of my walk and all of my Dilton Marsh ghost stories. These have been handed down to me from members of the village community, I am always on the lookout for more. A new walk is now being arranged, involving some of the surrounding hamlets, so stout walking shoes or boots will be needed as it will be a longer walk. It will be later in the year.
If anyone has any stories to tell trina, please email me above and I will let Trina know.
